My grandson has a job offer in Madison. He will graduate from UCinn in December. What area in Madison would be affordable and socially connected for a young person who doesn’t know anyone there?

I would say for any solid suggestions, it would help to know where he would be working. At least the area of Madison or what ‘burb his company is located. As while Madison may not be a large city it has its commute trouble spots. Does he own a car, does he bike or need mass transit, etc.
As for affordable, that is all relative. Madison is not a cheap place to rent or own, often the lower priced apartments are in shadier locations.
But in general having an idea on where work is will help.

Thanks. It’s Epic Systems, so I guess that is in Verona, WI. Are there bad areas in Verona?

A lot of new graduates live in on the near east side: Marquette, Atwood, Capital East, neighborhoods. Hilldale is another good area to look at that would have an easier commute to Epic.

There is also no shortage of young people in Verona either; Madison is a very young city in general.

Seeing as it is Epic (which brings in a lot of young grads), I would think their recruiting or employment office would have some good listings for apartments for those new to the area. I agree Verona should be fine, would say to be careful of some areas in nearby Fitchburg, and lastly perhaps the Middleton area could be a good option. Middleton means maybe a 20 min drive (assume winter could double it in poor conditions) but would put him close to more for shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
Just my .02.

Hi Verona is a nice city/town and near Epic. Not sure what cost apartments are there, but it does look like a nice town. He might like living in Madison though, with all the social stuff going on there. Does he have a car? He might need one to get to work if he lives outside of Verona.

If he is young and single, he doesn't want to live in Verona. Its a fine place, but mostly families sending kids to school. Most you epic workers live close to the square in downtown madison..

Thanks, all. He and a roommate rented a new, never lived in, 2/2 apartment, so he’s all set.

Just moved to a new apartment on Mansion Hill. It is a lot closer to work.
