Edgerton is a great town. I can't imagine race being a problem, especially for a doctor. In the main Dean St/Mary's Clinic (they practice at the Edgerton Hospital) in town most of the doctors are people of color. My kids have all grown up and left town now, but in all their graduating classes there were small populations of black kids. Most all were kids addopted by white families, but there were a couple of actual black families in town. Edgerton has a great school system. It's a very safe community in every way. The area you are looking at is on the north side of town actually on the Dane, Rock county line. So depending on what side of the road you live on you're in a different county. The Edgerton Performing Arts Center (part of the high school) has attracted diverse performances from a wide variety of places. We actually have had people come up to attend performances from the Chicago area. Contact:
paul.tropp@edgerton.k12.wi.us, he is the coordinator of the EPAC and president of WEpac endowment of the arts. As far as housing a new condo is near completion in the down town area. It's brand new, with underground parking.
We have a book festival in honor of Sterling North a native of this town. For a small town, we had people from all over the US attend last fall. We also have a nationally recognized chilli cook-off called Chillimania each fall. There are also many other festivals less national in character. You may also check out the Sterling North web site, or the Edgerton Chamber web site:
edgertonchamber@verizon.net. We are not originally from Edgerton, but have lived here for 33 years. We have had opportunity to go other places, but felt this was home. We have many active churches here, the Methodist, several Lutheran denominations, Catholic, Baptist and others. And if you want to get away Chicago is only 2 hours, Milwaukee 1.5 hours or less, Janesville about 15 to 20 minutes and Madison to the farthest reaches 40 minutes. I think you will find Edgerton a great place to live and enjoy.
