Is he hanging out with Mr. Belvedere when out and about? (OK, enough of my lame attempt at humor).

I remember when wasn't that Eric Bonet guy - who I believe is a Milwaukeean - was dating Halle Berry and once in a blue moon you'd see Berry in MKE? People got all excited about that. I also think that for a sliver of time Ray Allen was dating Tyra Banks who may've popped into a Bucks game once or twice and folks were pretty worked up about that as well.

Anyhow, I am sure most would agree that Milwaukee's lack of "big celebs" aren't exactly a drawback to the city.

Okay Madison it worked. You hid all of the wonderful things that make us all love you so much. Now Milwcity will go back and spread the word and the Milwaukee people will leave us alone. Now back to enjoying the great life in Madison in peace.

Every time I went to Madison to have a good time my options are red cup parties or State street which is college city. As a 25yr old male looking for a classy club, lounge or cigar bar I have no choice but to take a loss on the night and drive back to the Mil.
Meduro (SP) is up around King St, kitty corner of State Street on the Capital Square. It's a Cigar bar in a city that doesn't allow smoking. Good beer selection, and usually Rat Pack impersonators on the weekends. Never seen the college crowd there.

As a matter of fact I can't really recall a single 'college' type of bar on King Street, or Willy/Atwood street, for that matter. Did you check this area out ever? I'd hope so...

The people in Madison are so full of themselves and why?
People in Madison ARE full of themselves- there's a certain pretentiousness that really has no place. So are people in Milwaukee that think it's a big city. It's not. So are people in Minneapolis that think it has the best live music scene in the Midwest (somehow they forget about that little place down the road called Chicago). It's called the Midwest- people are very proud of where they reside and for some reason feel the need to let you know how great it is....

-Madison has no nightlife, you won't run into any celebs here.
Who cares? Would a celebrity care if they ran into you? Billy Bob Thorton one night was seen in some small town in NE Iowa a few years ago. Should people go live there? How about in Dyersville, where Field of Dreams was filmed?

Quote:
-8 suburbs, not 51 like Milwaukee.
Yes, please let me go live in Racine.

Quote:
-No traffic problems so why do you even have a traffic report?
Because many of the commuters use the Beltline, and it can get pretty congested, like many roads when you have more cars than necessary...

Quote:
-No Pro sports teams
I went to a Bucks/Cavs game last winter. Maybe half the Bradley Center was filled.

Quote:
-No skyscrapers
Does Milwaukee? The only thing I usually see is a big tall US Bank building. Does that count?

Quote:
-No Million dollar condos
How do you know? Madison is actually a fairly expensive city for its size.

Quote:
-Do you have an airport? or do you still fly out of Milwaukee still?
The Madison airport is actually quite good, and usually cheaper too...
-Not diverse and too many of one political party.

Quote:
-No unique neighborhoods it all looks the same.
Again, refer to the Willy St./Atwood area. Interesting place.
Quote:
-The only entertainment area is downtown not different neighborhoods.
Willy St etc.

And how many spots in Milwaukee outside of Downtown are entertaining? Waukesha?

Quote:
-1 homicide in 5yrs and the whole town goes into a panic.
By right, people should be more concerned with murders anywhere...

Quote:
-Do people from Chicago come up to Madison for a weekend for a good time...no.
I've met quite a few people who actually moved here from Chicago to get out of all the concrete, but still experience the bit of city life Madison has to offer. And I have a good friend that comes up from Chitown and I'm pretty sure he's usually enjoying himself...

-You drive too slow
Everybody?

Quote:
-No good restaurants
The Old Fashioned, Local Tavern, Paison's, Great Dane, etc. on the capital, not to mention quite a few in the Willy Street area. Did I mention the Willy Street area?

Quote:
-No international neighborhoods(Russian, Polish, Serbian, Jewish)
I personally don't speak any languages that coincide with those nationalities/religions etc., so as far as socializing with this type of 'hood', this doesn't affect me.

Quote:
-Face it, your not a big city so stop trying act like you live in one, 5 mins and your out in cornfields.
Milwaukee is not a big city. 15-20 minutes and it's the same cornfields. It's not even close. And one of the comments I've heard from friends who live there talk about how it's very 'small town/high school friends sticking together for years on end' type of stuff. Creepy.

Not to mention, actually just a few minutes from Madison is beautiful rolling hills, with MANY miles of trout streams flowing through them. Very 'neat'.

I'm sick of Madison trying to compete or even compare itself to Milwaukee, that's like Milwaukee trying to compare itself to Chicago. Which in fairness Milw is more like Chicago than Madison is like Milw.

Are you the guy at the party that always has to be talking louder than the music, and at some point in the night, either has someone hit you in the back with a spachla, or you start a fight? Just a hunch.

I've never heard anyone talk about Madison being compared to Milwaukee, except being mentioned as two different cities, just that Milwaukee is bigger with more to offer, which is obvious. And, again, Milwaukee, while a pretty fun city, isn't even close to Chicago in overall opportunities, vibe, etc.

If you don't like visiting Madison, than go do something in Milwaukee to keep yourself occupied. There's plenty to do there....

So Lets get this straight
-200,000 people in Madison
-1 county in metro Madison
-400,000 country and suburbs and madison combined.
-Does madison even have suburbs?
-Madison has no nightlife, you won't run into any celebs here.
-8 suburbs, not 51 like Milwaukee.
-No traffic problems so why do you even have a traffic report?
-No Pro sports teams

Do you agree or why do you disagree?
Dude, you have just shown me that Madison is an AWESOME place to live!!! No celebrities, no million $ condos and no traffic? These are all GOOD things!!!
With the exception of no international neighborhoods, MADISON SOUNDS LIKE PURE HEAVEN!!!!!!! If people in Madison are full of themselves THEY SHOULD BE!!! After all they have a world class university, low crime and great people.

Repeating what others have said, the original post was a

The OP has said that Madison Metro is one county. I know for a fact that Columbia County is also considered Madison Metro according to Wikipedia. I love Madison. I like that Madison doesn't have skyscrapers, it shows respect to the State Capitol building. (Spelling?)

The OP whines about cornfields. Are you kidding me? Check out the Wisconsin photo thread. Wisconsin is one of the most geologically/geographically diverse states in the country.

You need to get out more.

This thread is ridiculous, and it should have died after the first page. Why? Because I don't think the OP is for real. I mean, I have no great love for Madison, it's not my kind of town, but to lord over Madison with this "big city" vs "small town" thing is just dumb. It's dumb because Milwaukee is hardly in the position to be pulling rank being a relatively small city itself. And it's just dumb overall -- those rare times I see a Chicagoan try to pull the "I'm from the big city" act I just laugh. Usually when someone goes on and on about how the city they live in so bad ass compared to the city you live in, usually the person doing the boasting doesn't have a whole lot else shakin' in their own lives.
