i believe Charter is still the only cable option in the Madison market (we used them there for years, pretty satisfied with service, not so much on $$$), otherwise you have satellite options for TV, and depending on where you live ATT/Uverse may be available as well. TDS can supply internet, not sure if they offer any TV options.

I know our daughter isnt real happy with direct tv (lives in a burb), but i've talked to others who enjoy it.

You can't beat charter for speed or consistency of service. They cost more than the other options but, frankly, I'd shot myself if I had to wait for DSL. It is soooooo slow. Their customer service is better than in the past, too. Now they have people in the United States handle their technical problems, not India. Before this switch, they had the surliest, most patronizing, least helpful customer service in the world.

Thanks! Any opinions on uverse? They seem to give good deals.

i've never had them, but my sis used them when she was in the West Bend area and loved it. Some folks down here have it and like it as well over cable. Maybe someone locally will be able to give you an idea on their service/etc in Madison

My friends have them and they are happy. I hate using the internet at their house, however, as it is really slow compared to my cable internet.

Megan, that's good to know, for the internet speed. I was going to consider them once we're back up, but as I do some work from home, last thing I need is slower internet. Have they ever tried one of those online internet speed tests that are out there to see what they actually are running? Both Time Warner (my speed here is 21.5+/- mbp's down and 2.1+/-mbp's up) and Charter sites have them, takes just a second to do.
Anyhow just curious.

I live in Town of Verona on Madison's west side. Only options in my neighborhood are Charter or TDS high speed fiber DSL. I went with TDS 50MB and it's been great so far. I only have internet. No TV, home phone service or package deal. TDS is pushing a relatively new internet-based TV service, but I haven't investigated it since I'm not interested in paying for TV. HD antenna plus Netflix is plenty for us.

OP, depending on where you are in the Madison area, TDS could be another option for you to investigate.
