Question searching for Madison apartments

I am planning to move to Madison. I already visited Madison in August 2007 and loved it, I really didn't want to return to Texas! I work at Wal-Mart and have summited a transfer request. So I will have employment when I move. Hopefully, after 6-12 months and I've settled, I can find a different job. I had posted on Monster.com but I've read a few goos posts here that say many employers won't hire if I'm not already in the city.

I need help in finding an apartment. I am single, no kids so 1 brm is fine. I have beeen reserching apartments in Madison and trying to find out about the neighborhoods. I have used websites to compare cities, but using zip codes not just the city name. I am aware how areas of one city can differ. And it matters if the website has accurate info. Bestspot.com

IF the info is correct then the zip code 52713 has similar crime rate to the area I am currently living in and feel comfortable in. 5319 and 53703 are better. While 53711 & 53704 are only slightly higher; both 53716 & 73705 have persoal & property crime rates similar to the neighborhood I used live in and hate for the insecurity. 53714 was the worst rating of all.

I know that many websites can be inaccurate. Can someone help me out? I am down in Texas and I can't drive (due to vision, not gas prices LOL) to check them out.

Since I can't drive I need a location where I can either walk to places or near the busline. Wal-mart isn't big on paychecks so my rent range is $550 if utilities not included, $650 if the are.

I've searched aptshowcase.com & cdliving.com. I've found several apts there. Can anyone tell me about Whispering Oaks or Mistwood?

These are VERY bad areas and the prices of the apartments reflect that. For a 1BR in a decent neighborhood in Madison you will need to pay $700. For a so-so neighborhood the rent will be around $600. Anything lower than that indicates serious problems.

Which Wal-Mart will you be working at? I lived in a great apartment for $575 very close to the west side Wal-Mart. Granted it was a studio, not a 1 bedroom but it included a washer/dryer and underground parking plus it was a nice neighborhood.

Thumbs up 1 Bdrm in 6-unit building

I manage an apartment building with a vacant one-bedroom unit. Heat is included in the $675 rent. It is in a trendy, convenient neighborhood on Winnebago Street - near east side of Madison. The apartment has been freshly painted and has new flooring in the kitchen and bathroom. We offer storage units with each apartment and also have a coin-op laundry in the basement. You can walk to restaurants (quite a few varieties of price range and type), bars, banks, salons, shoe repair shop, photography studio, places of worship, Jenifer St. Market (groceries), Acupuncturist, a Pilates studio, Dance studio, parks, and more! We are on the bus line and steps from the bike path.

If you're interested, you can email me at keyinrealestate@hotmail.com.

Thanks everyone for the help. I got an apartment=
Brighton Square on Kent ln, 53713.

I saw that the other two apts with the 52713 were said to be in a bad neighborhood. I don't know how that affects Brighton Square. I am coming with my eyes wide open though, no rosy glasses for this lady. The rent is $600 and I'm getting a move-in special.

Yeah, I thoght of the idea the good move-in might be to lure in people who may otherwise stay away. But I'm starting over from scratch. No furniture, elecronics, dishes, zip. Well, okay I'm buying a boombox from Wal-Mart when I get there so I'm packing some disks with my clothes.

I'll be arriving Aug, 2!
