Beware: don't pay in cash at the Great Dane!
Learn from our experience: use your credit or debit card, not cash, to pay your bill at the Great Dane. Our friendly, chatty waitress just ripped us off for $10 in change and flat-out denied it.
Our bill was $37.38. All we had was $20's. We gave her three $20's so we could get change for a tip. She brought us back $12.50 in change (she evidently couldn't even get the silver right). Then she stood there and claimed that we had given her 2 $20's and a $10.
Well, she got herself a $10.12 tip out of the deal, but she lost the Dane a couple of decades-long loyal customers. I hope they consider the trade a worthwhile one.
Caveat Emptor: don't use cash at the Dane!

I hope you at least gave management a chance to correct the situation before you decided to write them off?

You are really only out a couple of bucks. Tip should have been $7-8 anyways, so is the loss of a couple of dollars really a reason to not go back? It was just one waitress in the bunch, they are not all like that.

Had that happen to me once at a McDonalds drive-through. Handed the kid a twenty. Received my bag and drink and change for a ten. Started out with an "excuse me, but I gave you a twenty." Kid shot back with an instant, firm "no you gave me a ten." This went back and forth a couple of times before I asked for the manager. Manager comes back with an annoyed attitude "what seems to be the problem here?" I told him and then told him that "the top twenty in your cash drawer has a black triangle inked in the upper left corner." He opens the drawer, and sort of deflates and turns grim. The kid turns several shades towards pale, amazing to see from his original medium dark skin tone. We settled up and I moved on.
Never saw the kid there again, of course.
Moral of the story is that a lot of people are poor and disenfranchised. Ten dollars means a lot to them, and sometimes they don't realize the risk involved in skimming. Small retailers with cash registers are acutely aware of the unfortunate situation.

The point is not the loss of a couple bucks. The point is to not do business with dishonest people.

Was it the Dane downtown? I had a bad experience there recently. Really snotty little chicks - hostess and two waitresses.
