Madison Suburbs
What are the best Madison suburbs within 20 minutes or less to UW hospital and have great schools?

To answer directly, Verona, Oregon, Waunakee, Middleton. Having gone to Verona and Waunakee myself as a youngster, as well as Madison, I can't say they were a whole lot better curriculum wise or that I noticed much of a difference.
You may also consider Deerfield, Deforest, Sun Prairie, and Stoughton.

Good recommendations Mad420, but I don't think any are 20 min from UW hosptial except Middleton are they? Or maybe I drive like a grandma... (definite possibility).

What exactly are you looking for in a suburb? Your idea of "best" and mine might be completely different. Price range might help too.
I think Stoughton, Waunakee and Oregon might be a little too far given the '20 minutes from UW Hospital' criterion. Maybe at 3am when there's no other traffic around. But not during the day, and certainly not during normal commute hours. That said, the OP might want to expand the 20 minutes to 30 minutes; that opens up a lot more possibilities. 20 minutes to the hospital pretty much limits them to the inner ring suburbs on the south and west sides. And what about living in Madison proper?

The far west side of Madison feels like a suburb and has some great schools. If you go much farther west, your commute will be longer than 20 minutes. Is there a particular reason you don't want to live in the city?

Well if you look through real estate listings they claim to be about that distance from the capitol. I know from personal experience from Westport right outside of Waunakee taking M you should be able to make it in that time depending on traffic. I know Deforest to Monona is about 18 minutes and Stoughton to Monona is 15 minutes. Deerfield claims to be around 15 to 20 minutes to the capitol too and so on an so forth.

Real estate listings also tend to engage in a time-honored tradition called "lying."

Thanks for all the responses!! Bowie let me explain my situation..Where I live now only single people or people without kids live in the city. Our city schools are not very good. My husband and I will both be working at UW hospital so we need to be close. We live in suburbs now and we are about 15 minutes away from hospital here. We will being renting either an apartment or a house. I have looked at the West high school and it looks very nice. We visited in April and loved the city. The crime rate there doesn't seem to be what it is here so that said, what I am asking is if you were moving there with a sophmore in high school and work at UW hospital and need to rent where would you look? Thank you all for your help.

That is a loaded question, lol, you will understand when you've been here a while. Monona would meet your criteria as it's close to UW, actually borders the east side of the city, and Monona Grove High School has a decent reputation. Cottage Grove another suburb about 10 mins from Monona also goes to Monona Grove.
I wouldn't think the area around West High is too crime ridden. Fitchburg is another suburb and I would guess is in West's school district. It is around an undesirable area though for what that is worth, and I don't know how it would clock in time wise to UW Hosp. but not much over 20 minutes depending on traffic of course.
