How about middleton?
We are a family of 4 (baby, doggy, mommy and daddy) going to move to madison in May, and looking to find a place better close to UW campus. Does anyone have comments for living in middleton? Thanks

You will be closer to the Sonic than those not living in Middleton

It's nice. You have all the amenities of Madison at arm's reach, but a lower population density and lower home prices. It's about 20 minutes from UW on a good day, so an easy commute. It recently got "best place to live in America" from some national magazine. It doesn't have true small town feel, however, since it's completely attached to Madison. What kinds of needs does your family have? Do you have specific streets in mind?

Huh?! Middleton is considered "prime" real estate. No way it is cheaper than Madison proper if you are comparing apples to apples.
Otherwise I agree completely with Dairylander. I think Middleton would be a nice place to live - nice amenities, great schools, good library, most of the houses are well kept up and have large yards, on the west side, but with a small town feel rather than the suburban sprawl you get in southwest Madison.

I buy and sell real estate for a living. Middleton is cheaper.
If you look at the statistics of median home price, Madison appears cheaper, but that's because of the large areas of cheap housing in the north, south and east parts of town.
If a family of four is looking for a nice house near good schools with a yard for the dog, Middleton will be cheaper.

Middleton has top notch schools and all of the convenience of being located adjacent to Madison. Highly recommended.

Great. Two more cars coming in from the suburbs.
