Default Moving to Madison, where should we live?

My family will be moving to Madison this summer. Most likely will be there for only a few years and no school-age children so not worried about the schools. Husband will be working near the capital and doesn't want a long commute. Trying to decide between east side and west side...which is better? I've been told that the commute is easier coming in from the west side (compared to east); that the east side is more blue collar and west side white collar; and to avoid areas south of the beltway. Opinions? We're just looking to rent and at this point, feel like we've read every listing on craigslist. Would like a house or townhome. We've been looking outside the city but not opposed to being in the city as long as we aren't near the college/party crowd. Been told Middleton is nice but haven't heard much about other areas. Keep seeing listings in Sun Prarie and a few that say they're located in the "new east side" (what is this area?). We're going out in a couple weeks to look around and to hopefully sign a lease while there. Would be nice if we could narrow down our search before we fly out. Thanks!

You can get to the capital within 30 minutes from any city in Dane county. I'm not sure how much you are wanting to pay for rent, but the east side would be cheaper.

Any city in Dane county? At rush hour? I don't think that's right. Of course I only go about 5-10 miles over the speed limit at most times.
