Hi

We're plannig to move to Madison in November and would like to rent a furnished house or apartment for 3 to 4 months. Do they exist?

I think you'll find that unless it is a house sitting opportunity, most furnished apartments up here are slummy.

I've never heard of a furnished house rental.

If you don't mind living in the heart of the student neighborhoods, at least one landlord that I know of (the one I used to work for) does semi-furnished apartments in the really high-end buildings. They used to provide a sofa and loveseat, barstools for the counter in the kitchen and either a pair of twin or one full-sized bed in each bedroom. No dressers, desks, bookshelves, tables, etc., but they provided the basics.

The downside is that you'd likely be paying $500-$600/month per bedroom plus all utilities for an apartment in a building filled with 19-23 year olds who party loudly every weekend, puke in the hallways and pee in the elevators. And you'd be paying anywhere from $125 to $200 per month more to park a car anywhere within half a mile of the apartment.
