Default Do you live close to the lake shore on the Isthmus?

You will see my concern about the lakes and algae in my other thread.

If you live on or very close to the lake shore does the smell stop you using your yards, decks or balconies (not sure if you guys use this word) during the summer?

note the algae may vary based on the wind direction as well as actual home location; a strong front passing thru can clean up an area for a bit anyway.
Speaking from one who did not live on the lake but spent plenty of time on it; I don't believe it was a smell issue; it's the appearance and potential harmful effects in it that caused most concerns. Any lake, on a hot summer stagnant evening, can give you a "nice" odor to enjoy

the smell hasn't bothered us. i grew up on the east coast and lived in boston, so "dirty water" is something i'm used to. we live on jenifer street currently and are searching for homes on the monona side of the isthmus.

Could be worse. My grandparents are from a small Kansas town that let a big cattle feed lot be built right next to town. I'll give you a hint, it doesn't smell like feed.

Thanks Ranger

Thanks RemiJP - The area around Jenifer is one that we thought would be a good neighbourhood to live in so your comment is particularly useful.

I lived on the Isthmus in the Jenny St. area a block from the lake for 3 years, never noticed a smell from the lake. It's likely that the people directly on the water would give you a different response, but as soon as you get inland just a little you're fine.

Spiders, on the other hand...
