What happened to Youngstown? I'm not in the loop.
You just don't want to be a small town with a very high crime rate.

Every town and city everywhere has crime. It's the random crime that is scary, but most crime tends to spur from something. I've been told that most murders are committed by someone the victim knows. I live near an itty bitty town of about 1500 people, and a local motel owner was murdered by one of his employees. It was the talk of the town for awhile and a lot of people moved away, but once the whole story was out nobody cared, because it wasn't random so it wasn't scary anymore.

Same here. It's a bit of culture shock to me.

I am still sometimes surprised by the "alcohol culture" here, with servers in just about every restaurant and bar being extremely lenient about over-serving patrons.
