That area is kinda remote, the main attraction would be the lake (fishing, boating, etc.). However, depending on how far you are willing to drive, Madison would be about a half hour away (probably less) and the Dells (WI's main attraction) about 45 minutes I think. I could be off in my timing, it's been a while since I've been to the Lodi area...

I worked at the High School library there and the one thing I would be careful about is supervising your teenager. I don't think drugs and drinking are any worst there than other places, but they seem to have a lot of problems with kids getting hurt and every two - three years kids die in automobile crashes/overdoses. Considering it is a town of just under 3,000 people, that seems high to me. I don't hear of kids dying that often at say, Madison East, for example which is a school of 1,700 students.

Thanks, will be on the alert for that. I have a great teenager that to my knowledge hasn't been interested in drinking or drugs and would not want a vacation to alter that.

I think her teenager would be safe for the few days she is there on vacation, unless the kid would attend a bunch of raves, which is unlikely.

Oooop. Missed the part that it was only over the 4th. I was thinking they'd be there for a couple weeks at least. Probably was a silly thing to note anyway I guess, but I'd want to know that if my kid started hanging out with the locals.

I think the drug related deaths are more prevalent in smaller areas... I think this is because in, say Madison, it is much easier to walk or take the bus to a party... In Madison there are many, many, students that don't even have cars... In a smaller town, there are usually about 1-2 in the whole high school who can have a car but don't... I used to live in Belleville and there was a drinking/drug related death usually about once a year...
I also think the drug scene is more robust in the smaller towns... The reason is because there is nothing else to do... I honestly believer that there are a lot more drug users (usually just marijuana, cigs, and alcohol, but meth is starting to pick up now which is a scary thought) in the smaller town schools per capita than the larger ones... What else are you gonna do, go cow tipping??
