Default I beg to differ

In my experience of owning a small company, paying my people high wages was good for business. When people are recognized in a company, by better than average wages, they preform better, have less sick days, and feel they are part of something. Not only did I pay well, but each employee shared in the profits at the end of the year. Todays companies and businesses, don't care about their employees. All the boards and owners care about is using their employees to get rich.
Greed people, just plain greed.
You get what you pay for!

Okay so you give everyone a living wage of $12.00/hr where is that money going to come from? Most small business are lucky if they make 1-2% profit. If you force a living wage on companies 3 things will happen 1)Prices on everything will go up. 2) Companies will cut employees. and 3)Companies that are able to will move to an area with out a living wage.

So if prices of goods and services (food, rent, heat, clothing, etc...)go up then the buying power of that $12 goes down and not just for those people that got the raise. People that were making $13 and didn't get a raise now can not buy as much. Which is putting more and more people in to poverty.

Then if companies leave an area or cut employees well that pretty self explanatory on what happens. Unemployment, less jobs, higher number of people unable to feed themselves and their families.

So then what is you answer? Price control on all essential goods and services? That's worked real well every other time it's been. Just as the Russians.

So tell me again how the whole living wage thing is a good thing?

Anyone who would complain about paying an employee $12.00 per hour doesn't deserve my business.
Did it ever occur to you that the people who appear to "live high off the hog" might not actually be very well off? Some people's careers require that they maintain a certain image of success, whether or not that image is real is another story. I used to be an event coordinator at my student union in Denver. I only made $10.50 an hour, but was required to show up to work everyday in a dress shirt, slacks, and a tie. You probably would've mistaken me as "high roller" but you couldn't be further from the truth.

People please put your money where your mouth is!
So if you're bill is $10, you pay $22? Sure you do.

I feel you, for the most part. However, a living wage is in effect in cities like Boston and Chicago, but that's because the cost-of-living is so high in those cities. Having said that, it isn't nearly as expensive to live in Madison as Boston or Chicago, therefore a living wage is a horrible idea.

If you only make $2.33/hr as a server, then maybe you should take a look at how good of a server you think you are. As a former manager of several different restaurants, I'm here to tell you that I knew servers who made 2-3 times what I made. They were good....and oh yeah, their hourly wage was $2.09/hr.

The worst thing you can do in the tipping world is to still tip well when the service was bad. That only re-enforces bad service and makes the server think that his or her service was good. The bad part is the next guest comes along and gets the same bad service. The server will get pissed when future guests tip badly and wonders why he/she didn't get a good tip. The tip should match the service.

ok, so they give you 7-8 bucks an hour plus your tips which apparently don't amount to much. My opinion is that your wage still sucks. No offense to the career servers out there, but I'd say that being a server is a part time job that is only there to help get through college or something. You should set your goals much higher. Unless you want to be a server the rest of your life, you might as well get used to it, or find other employment that pays better.

Without someone washing dishes, there would be no possible way for anyone in the restaurant to make a single penny. No clean dishes.....nowhere to put the food......nothing for the servers to carry the food on......nothing for the guests to eat from..........restaurant closes.....you get different job.
