Default Dog-related: Vets? Pet supplies?

Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations as far as good, reasonably priced veterinarians in/near downtown Madison? What about pet food stores? My golden retriever would be making regular visits for chronic ear problems, and needs $$$, grain-free food.

Thanks in advance,

Meghan

I really like MadCat on Willy Street and I think their location on Mineral Point has a larger selection. Right next door to Madcat on Willy is our vet, Dr. Kohn. He's very calm, straightforward without seeming rushed, will answer any questions you have, and gladly demonstrate how to apply/give meds. His calm personality might not fit with high strung pet owners, but we really like him. Our dog happily runs up the stairs of his office every time we pass by - it's very cute. It's a small office, just the Doc, a receptionist, and a tech.

Our vet is on the west side, or I'd recommend them. I can, however, make a big rave for West MadCat's fantastic stock of good quality foods. I would say go talk to them and look at their selection, and then you can see if the Willy Street location has what you want, or ask them to keep it on hand for you.

Here's a good link for grain-free food research. I see the Natural Instinct foods are on there. We have this for cats and it's very good, they like it.

Moving here, I was amazed at the huge number of vet offices I see all throughout the west side, seems like one every half mile or so.

There are also a good number of independent pet shops. I like the selection and friendly feel of Mad Cat on Mineral Point, but I end up doing most of my shopping a half mile south at the Pet Supermarket on Odana, the selection is almost as good and prices are lower.
