HyVee Grocery Debuting Tomorrow
It wasn't quite the excitement I had in mind but it's a little something, and it's on my side of town. Sounds similar to Wegmans out of NY. Choices, more choices and a food court

HyVee does a really nice job compared to a lot of midwestern grocery chains. They run clean stores, have a lot of excellent prepared foods, and have excellent service.

They have quite a few good grocery store chains in madison. I wish we had something other than Cub, Rainbow, and a handful of Bylery's stores. I'd kill for a Woodman's or Copps around here.

We checked this place out on Saturday- what a mistake! It was HEAVING with people- the parking lot was so full we had to park at the Schlotskys!
That being said- I was impressed with the wide selection of food, the layout, and the prices (although Im sure some of those were opening day price-leaders). We got two pieces of bakery and they were great donuts, not too greasy at all (well, good for supermarket donuts). I dont really like Copps or Cub and living on the near East side its a haul anyway you drive to a semi-decent market so Im happy that this is somewhat closer but with better prices and no hoking around with that stupid club card like with Copps (especially since they just changed card schemes and I would have to get a new one!). Happy to see its 24 hrs too!

HyVee is a pretty nice grocery store. I haven't been to the one here, but have been to a bunch in Iowa and Nebraska. It is Copps-ish.

Eh.... It's a grocery store. Not as much selection as Woodman's and not much nicer aesthetically.

Ha, I worked at Hy-Vee back in Iowa for 5 years. It's always ranked as one of the nicest grocery store chains in the country. They definitely place a huge emphasis on not having long lines, and being very clean and bright. At least the ones I've gone to in Iowa were huge and immaculate.

I never understood the love for Woodman's here. Their food/produce selection, strange checkout facilities, and patched together vintage 70s decor creeps me out to no end. Ive tried shopping there but its just repulsive and Im not sure their prices are any better than anywhere else. But.. personal preference.

We just bought our groceries using PEAPOD.COM here in Madison and it was WONDERFUL!!! Took a lot less time to shop online, they deliver all the groceries onto your kitchen counter, no heavy lifting, no driving, no effort...it was great!!! And all for only $6.95 delivery fee.

I finally made it into the store this past weekend. Hyvee milk was cheaper than Woodman's cheapest brand...other than a few other items...still cheaper at Woodmans.
That is cool they have an all you can eat meal deal, cafeteria, nice deli, salad bar and coffee bar cafe. Something different, although I will have to stick mostly with Woodmans on basic items.
I think more attractive displays, departments than Woodmans, but the flooring looks the same.
The cashier at check-out was not friendly in the least. In fact, can't remember coming across such a sour puss checker in years.
