Exiled Mainiac (18 years) presently living in California. Considering moving back to Midcoast (Camden, Rockland, Brunswick, etc.) I have an interracial marriage and children. Any candid comments regarding tolerance or potential lack thereof?

I don't care what else may be said, you'll have absolutely no problems here. This is the most live-and-let-live place I've ever seen.

We have good friends in Eastport who moved there about 8 years ago. They are an interracial couple, with 3 kids, and as far as I know they haven't had any problems. Of course, they're fantastic too....it's impossible not to like them! We have a good size Native population here too, so maybe that helps, but I agree with MsJL, you'll have no problems

Thank you for that question!!! I'm in the same boat so to speak. I am mixed, and considering moving to Maine. I can't believe at age 40 I'm worried about being "accepted", but I am. Those of you who answered HandT, I appreciate your input. Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you who answered HandT racially mixed? If not, are there any non-caucasian people who live in Maine and would care to offer a comment based on their personal, first-hand experience?

lol - so I'm a half black dude looking to move to Maine too. I mean, who doesn't like half black dudes? Well, I'm also half white. Point is, if I move to Maine, I don't want to get treated like a freak or weird or out of place. I know Maine has a whole mess a' white people, but are they racist white people?

Well stephenw, even here in the greater San Francisco area, there are a fair number of racist white people, and racist black people, philipino people........etc. I've found the greater Portland area to be very much a live-and-let-live community.
