While I think we put this one to rest!

a littl off topic but we all watched "old yeller" last night.. "origonal" and there was a lot of yes mam and yes sir and "mind" your manners... It was nice when people learned at a young age to give respect and then earn it!

Fat chance i'll be getting my 15 year old to talk like that??

If I don't know a person's name or her marital status, I have always felt it safe and respectful to say Ma'am. I do think it sounds better than saying hey lady..or hey you..or yo mama. And I kinda like it when a female calls me "hon". ..lol

I don't mind being refered to as "Ma'am",... but I would be a bit miffed if someone called me "Sir"!

That happened to me after I had my hair cut very short a la Shari Belafonte. I haven't worn my hair that short since.

I wouldn't find ma'am or sir disrespectful. But please don't call me Madam.
How do men feel when someone calls them "Dude"?
We hear this term used more and more these days.
