Lobsters in Calais, ME
Heyya Ya'll! Its me again! Whats the best way to get lobster when I move to Calais? Is there a way and a place to go to buy them straight from the fishers?

The fish market. The locals won't tell you where to buy them at boat price until you've lived there for at least 3 years....it's an unwritten Maine law.

I've heard that they dive for them down that way. It can be a little tricky but I'm sure one of the locals will show you how it's done.

I tried it once but those Shop 'n Save employees can be moody about people in the tank.

I guess I should probably say something remotely helpful after that wise crack, huh?
I have to make a delivery to Calais Farmers Marketplace tomorrow. I'll ask the owner if the fish monger ever has lobster. I know the other seafood is always great. I think the closest you could find it off the boat is Eastport but I don't know how you'd make the connection. I know lobstermen who don't sell off the boat to many people because their bonus is based on the total weight sold through the dealer.
