My daughter was visiting for a few days and left me with a book she had read. True story - "Shoutin' Into the Fog" by Thomas Hanna. It gives a good perspective of growing up on the central coastal area - near Reid State Park - of a large and poor family during the 30s. He has a flair to keep you interested. Life was tough right after the great depression for those that had little. During his formative years - up to age of about 12 - the family had no running water or electricity. Give it a try.

Sarah Graves writes fiction mystery, and even though it *is* fiction, in reading the book you get a feel for small town coastal living in Maine. Her books are set in Eastport, and much of what she describes about the town is really there, exactly where she says it is. The atmosphere of the town I would say is accurate, and although we certainly don't have the number of dead bodies turning up there in real life as she does in the books, it lends the reader a look into Eastport and the "types" of people you'd expect to meet

Are there any good crime dramas set in Maine or written by Maine authors?

No, Msina, still about a week away, but I already certainly consider myself a Mainer, far more than ever an Arizonan.
