Default Chipmunk Infestation

Another fall another chipmunk infestation in my house!
I have tried smoking them out, poison, plugging their holes, trapping them, and even a .22 but I still have them running through the ceiling and walls all night long! THEY DRIVE ME NUTS!
I threw moth balls down their holes, tried loud music against the wall, flooding their holes with the hose, and I'm running out of ideas (and patience at this point). Problem is they still get into the house. I have a huge granite slab for a front step which I cannot move ( I tried and my tractor won't budge it!) and their main access is naturally directly behind it!
Does anyone have a good way of dealing with these rodents??

Default Alvin moves down east

A good cat might help if you can pick out a dedicated mouser.

Maybe provide them with alternate shelter like a nice woodpile.

Didn't think they would be active at night. The neighbor down here had that problem and he caught a few flying squirrels. Never knew they were in our area. So while you see chipmunks and lots of them, perhaps the night time rebel rousers are something else?

Small cage trap with peanut butter in a small jar set in the back of the cage. The hides should be prime in your area and enough marauders would make a fine jacket.

Bet if you could get a nice big black racer snake or equivalent to live in your foundation the munks would avoid the place completely.

We have many chipmunks in our part of the country also. I have an out door sink and counter area for gardening, etc., and I have a plastic pail under drain to catch water so I can reuse it elsewhere. The other day it was pretty full and as I walked by I saw something thrashing in the water. I thought it was a fish at first but it turned out to be a chipmunk who fell in there trying to get a drink of water. He couldn't climb out because of plastic sides. I quickly dumped the pail over and the little guy just sat there shivering and trying to catch his breath. He eventually revived himself and scampered away.

So one way of catching them is to put some chipmunk food in a plastic bucket or garbage can and have a board on top and then they fall in and can't get back out. Then you can dispose of them. I haven't done this yet, but if I did I'd probably relocate them.

If I lived close enough, I'd relocate mine to Freeport, too!

We had a problem with opossums. Dw calls them "white rats". Where we live, they are accustomed to humans. Got into the trash, the garage rags, everything. Finally I decided to call an exterminator, who recommended a wildlife specialist. The guy came up and found the problem. Now, no more 'playing possum' for us!

For an infestation like you describe, I'd call a professional. Not that expensive, and they get the job done right.

Snap traps will work with a good guess on placement. I catch them in my greenhouse.

See! You just have to look for the positive. Place it right outside the bedroom window and I bet you don't hear them running in the night anymore.

We have a cat but she's deaf and 16 years old. The chipmunks and red squirrels actually eat her dry cat food right from her dish.
She sits and watches them.
I made a water trap and used sunflower seeds in it . All it did was attract dozens of gray squirrels from all over the place to lug off the seeds. I caught a few mice in it but only one chipmunk.
I tried D-Con last year and it worked somewhat . Unfortunately one died in the wall and made our den unuseable for over a month as it decomposed behind the sheetrock!! Lovely smell.
