I hope it works out for them. Stearns has a long history of turning out very well-rounded students.

I will say two words for the Chinese kids 'tho: Culture shock.

Oh, make that 5 more: Lots of room to roam.

i think it is a great idea, nice to (possibly) see china send some money here. and it will be nice and clean compared to the environmental nightmare in china.

The new students will undoubtedly want to vote in local elections.

I read that story, but thought it was kinda smarmy of the NYTimes to pick on Millinocket with that feature and make them sound, well, naive. Hey they are thinking outside the box, though don't know if it will pan out for them.

Most high school age kids are not old enough to vote AND it is required that you be a "U S citizen" not just a resident. I think they will enjoy the clean air to breathe.

"Smarminess" from NY toward Millinocket doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

I do commend the town for trying to breath some life back into the shell of a former booming mill town. I hope it works.

This was a take off on Portland's hair-brained idea to let non-citizen residents vote in local elections.
