Lee, Maine. Lots of background, scenery, varied population, good schools and the bonus is Lee Academy with numerous foreign students. The first families who settled here are still here.

Town of Lee, Maine

Skowhegan. The price of homes is modest, there is a revitalized downtown and a great farmer's market.

Looking to retire along mid-coast Maine maybe Belfast Stockton Springs or over to Owl's Head, appreciate any insights about the area, quiet safe locale yet not too far from necessities like groceries and medical care for the old folks. Anyone have opinions on the Cape Jellison area. Thanks

You might look into Damarascotta or Pemaquid. They're not far from Owl's Head and have a lot of beauty to offer. There's a hospital in Damarascotta.

Sounds like most any town from central to northern Maine really. Most have populations less than 5000 and some far less than that. Although many don't have elementary and middle schools anymore. For instance Monson which is near me used to have them and then would send the high schoolers to Dover. But they had to close them and send all kids to dover.......pretty sad really.

The Cape area is nice and quiet. The Stockton area may be more affordable too. Belfast has a nice hospital too.
