Been watching the temps, charting for when sap should start flowing. Hoping for a slow gentle warming trend here. Followed by a long fiddlehead season.

I'm not ready for spring. I'm still doing indoor projects. We overhauled the bedroom right after Christmas and it's close but still not done. Just the carpeting left to do. Feeling cramped in our son's old bedroom but it will be nice when we're done.
Spring is the beginning of a big repainting project for me. Besides my yearly barn painting this year we have to do most of the house as well. Unfortunately I don't live in a nice little ranch. It takes me about a week a side to scrape, prime and paint. So I have close to two solid months of painting to do. Thinking about trying to bribe friends with lobsters and beer. We also plan to repave the driveway and spruce up in general for my daughter's wedding here in August. Lots to do and a good reason to do it.
I'll let you all know when the Yard Sale will be....It will be worth driving down from Eastport for!!!
Hmmm...I can paint!

There is about 5 feet on the flat here. In '87, it melted in about a week and Shirley recorded about 7" of rain. We had just bought the shop that week. Back at the farm, the river rose about 15 feet.

Well, i suppose I shouldn't even say anything considering where I spent this winter (LA and Rio de Janeiro). Oh but I will! I cannot stand the heat, and believe you me, dry heat or no, 102 in Hollywood is...let's just say, UNCOMFORTABLE. No, let us enjoy winter if just for a little bit more...

I am looking forward to the procession crocus and pansies and the parade of blooming shrubs and trees.....and the riot of daffodils and tulips......the flats of marigolds.....the spreading pink of ground flocks.....day lilies poking up through the winter seered foliage from last year....the awakening of the earth....and the rejoicing of worms.

I like the increased daylight, and the flowers are wonderful, but I don't usually feel like rushing spring. I love winter! I could do without the ice ruts on our street though... feels like my teeth are going to fall out every time I drive over them!

I like winter up to this point. Now I've had enough.

For example, I've renamed a small hill on my walking route "Hipfracture Highland."

Fortunately, I still have pretty good balance and a good pair of LL Bean Snowsneakers.

Ahh yes, we whine about the snow, we whine about the bugs, we whine about the heat and then we get to whine about being cold again! We live in Maine, we have seasons.

I can't wait for the mingies, then the black flies, then the horseflies, and the no-see-ums in August and September! It all means that Summer is back and I'll be in a mountain stream somewhere panning for GOLD!
