Can anyone give me a visualization for this area from Oct. - March? Is it too slow or are there some things happening (or would I have to get to Portland for that)? Im 40 w/no children and like to get out some nites for music, theater, etc. Does anyone know this area well?

The region you ask about is rather sophisticated, Camden Pop. 5300 and Belfast pop. 6400 are less then 20 miles apart. The region from mid autumn till spring might be slow. There are art galleries galore, cozy cafes and restuarants to be sure, but the regions small population will not make it a nightspot mecca. Rockland, just to the south of Camden-pop. 7,300 is the largest town in the region.

Thx! My aunt has told me about Rockland as well. I dont need a nightlife per se, just some local culture would be nice.

The few times I've been in Belfast, I loved it but my needs were simple. A lovely place to walk around, a very good library, galleries, above average shopping and good eats.

I think that a lot of folks want to believe that there is the ONE place in Maine in which they will find EVERYTHING that they left behind in New Jersey or whereever. It simply is not that way here. There are lots of things that are going on all the time in Maine, but it will be quite likely that that perfect concert, or that one play that you really want to see is in Portland, or Bangor or Brunswick or somewhere else. That will mean that it will be necessary to travel some distance to take in that event that is so very important. If someone needs the constant stimulation of an urban environment, then they are probably not going to find it anywhere in Maine...not even in the "big city" of Portland. But by all means, people should come and see what Maine really is...not just the excitement of a beautiful July afternoon, but the REAL Maine, which is what is here when the summer "folks from away" go back to where they came from.

Ive been all over Maine, at all seasons of the year. My family has lived in Portland, Camden, Belfast, Sanford, Ogunquit, Biddeford, etc., etc......Im not looking for the perfect place to live, just wanted to know what is going to be in that area over the winter, for the short amount of time I will be living there. I dont need to travel to see anything, really....Im fine with yoga and a health food store in Belfast and hiking in Acadia.....I'll take the bus to portland occassionally and stay overnite, the nite before a flight out, if I get "bored". (Personally, I think your reply doesnt belong on my thread...)

Default Raising children in Belfast

I too, am considering moving to Belfast. We are now in Southern Maine, and have the opportunity to move to Belfast. Can anyone tell me what the schools and youth activities are like for all ages of kids?

Thanks--

Im sorry I dont know what the schools are like in Belfast but from what I saw on the internet in re: to the schools, they seem very small but active in the community as well. Have you done a google search? I found the chamber website to be helpful but I dont have kids so I am not sure....
