When i go house-hunting next month, I'm also going to look at a house in Belfast. Any thoughts on that town?

I've been there before, and i know it's more of an actual 'town' than most of the other areas i'm looking in. The house overlooks the harbor and is zoned commercial. I would have 'city' sewer and water, and not have a septic system and well to worry about.

Anyone live there, or have close ties there? Thanx, Jill

Thumbs up I'd do it!

Hi Jill,

I go to Belfast/Searsport several times a year to visit family and I just love the area. It's very "Main Street USA" and the people are genuinely friendly. It's not overly touristy, like say, Camden, and still has a very authentic coastal vibe. The Victorian homes are sooo lovely, and the scenic view? *swoon*

Colonial Theater, Wasses cheeseburgers, and Dudley's Diner are just a few of my favorite places there.

There are wonderful towns you love to visit on vacation, and then there are wonderful towns you'd love to MOVE to and raise your family. Belfast is that town for me.

I also love Belfast! We almost ended up buying a house there, but the commute for Dh would have been a little too long. It's a great small town, and I wouldn't hesitate to live there! (Plus there is a good hospital right in town.)

When we lived in Bangor we used to head down to the Belfast Bay Festival each year. Such a nice drive down, and there was always fun things going on that we went more than one day.

You know one of the best things about the forum for me is when a poster comes on asking about a town, and if I've been there, more often than not it gets me thinking "oh, I've got to get back there again! I really liked ______". I think it's a good year to visit Belfast again, it's been three years or so, and that's too long.

Milbridge is MUCH more rural than Belfast. The population drops a lot after Labor Day.

Belfast is awesome. Has one of the stronger economies in Maine for a town it's size and there's a great feel to the town year round. It doesn't get overcrowded in the summer (though it does get a fair share of tourists) but the town never gets that "dead" feeling either. The downtown is always active with very little, if any empty storefronts and I would even go as far as to say the town has a slightly funky vibe to it. I commute to Belfast from bangor for work every day and I must say, while I enjoy the "city" amenities of bangor, I could totally see myself living there some day. Its a cool town with a growing reputation.

Well, i'm kinda disappointed becuz it looks to be on a commercial lot along with some other commercial buildings right nearby. I like the house and the harbor view, but i dont want to be sooo near (IN) the commercial zone.

I will keep looking in Belfast, as i really think i'd love that town, but i dont see any more there for me right now None with a waterview, anyway.

(if you want to look for it, it's 23 Old Searsport Rd.)
