My wife and I would like to move to Maine. We love northern NE. We don't mind a 30 minute commute for work. We enjoy hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and walking our dogs. Pretty much anything outdoors. We both grew up in NE so we don't mind the cold. We would love to move to a small town with a low crime rate that has the basics in it (grocery store, gas station, police and fire department, schools). Any info would be great. We will be moving in september.

Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!

The surrounding towns are very nice and meet your criteria. Lincoln is the economic center of the region with six banks, a credit union, good hospital, all three major car dealers and more churches than you can count. Slam dunk. Your search is over. It took 10 minutes on your Maine forum.

I moved here from "away" (New Jersey) and moved to right outside Lincoln, Maine so I agree with the above post. My kids go to school in Lincoln and I am very happy with the school system. I am so happy with our move to here and absolutely love the town of Lincoln. However, the one thing you most likely will have to consider... is where you can find work. Chances are, unless your in a field that can work right in Lincoln (a nurse etc), you'll be driving to the closest City (Bangor) or surrounding areas near the city, which will be slightly over that 30 minutes you mention. But, it's a wonderful place!

I like Presque Isle, and Houlton too. If you're looking at northern Maine you've got some great places to look into, but jobs might be difficult right now. What type of work would you need?

Is this a common custom in Maine, to sell various size pies (including "personal" pies) instead of selling it by the slice?

I remember I went to a pizza store while visiting Maine twenty-five years ago, and was informed they don't sell slices. I was just a kid at the time so was somewhat dumfounded and just stood there with a look on my face not knowing what to say next.... "uhhhh.... okay.... what?"

It's good you are willing to drive as that helps alot with finding work.
You weren't very specific with what you are looking for, but good luck with your search!
