Looking for vacation ideas in Maine
If anyone can help, I'd very much appreciate it. Here is what we are looking for:
-a small town with a nice downtown district (cafes, bed and breakfast)
-very close to nature where we could take some extended, yet gentle hikes (wife is pregant, but loves to hike)

How far up the coast would you like to go? Because if you drive to almost the very end, you will be in Eastport, which is exactly what you're describing.

take a look and good luck!

So does Belfast. I think you're actually looking for....well, Maine! Same thing we're going for!

Bar Harbor sounds like a place you'd enjoy. Bar Harbor is a quaint town on the ocean with lots of shops, B&Bs, restaurants... Acadia National Park is right there with all the hiking you could ask for. I haven't been to the other places people speak of, but I think Acadia is the prettiest place I've been to in the eastern US and I've seen a lot of it. You've got the mixture of quaint fishing villages, beautiful ocean views and mountainous terrain all in one place.

Great hiking in Acadia NP but I would not call Bar Harbor quaint, especially in the summer. It's a very busy tourist town.
Belfast is a quaint fishing village but little hiking in the area.
Camden is more like Bar Harbor, a very busy tourist town but has some great hiking in the area.
