Does anyone commute from Winthrop Maine to the VA Medical Center in Togus ? My hours are 8-4:30 and I'm just wondering how long it will take in the morning and evenings. I am hoping for a commute that is no longer than 1/2 hour otherwise I guess I will move to Gardiner?
How long is the commute on average?
Thanks, Carrie

It would depend where in Winthrop you were, but from the center of town to Togus it's 17 miles. From Winthrop to the Interstate traffic moves right along. From the Interstate across the river, you would have traffic lights slowing you down. that portion would take at least 15 minutes I'd guess. Overall trip would be at least a half hour because of the traffic lights I say. Would be an easy drive however.

when mentioning agusta traffic, one always must keep in mind the "rush hour", 5000 state employees leaving work- a few areas to avoid-western avenue (major artery in augusta, turns into 202 towards manchester/winthrop, its, bumper to bumper traffic

If i were leaving togus for winthrop- Id exit togus, on rte 17, take a right at the first four corners with a traffic light-go straight til you hit rte 3 take left, follow road -go over new augusta bridge, then SOUTH on 95- take off ramp to augusta/belgrade exit go about a mile (on 27) then left on the leighton road, which will connect you to rte 202 take right to manchester-then go straight to winthrop

this avoids western avenue and the rotaries altogether

if you go western avenue and rotaries you can be stuck in traffic for 15-20 minutes thru the many lights

Thanks - I wanted to be in a good school area but I used to live in DC and it took 90 minutes to drive 18 miles so I was worried when people mentioned traffic in Augusta, but it doesn't sound like it would be as bad as I've imagined! Thanks

When the legislature is not in session it will go much faster, both ways.
