We got some hail here in Calais, about the same size, but no substantial damage anywhere. The minivan got a couple of little dents to go with the softball dent, but it's not bad, and neither of the Jeeps (one was in the garage, the other has the soft top on it) were damaged at all.
The town was pumping water from a nearby brook and utilizing the piping from the old dam into town. A temporary fix and the town manager limited water usage. Poland Spring Company was sending 9000 gallon trucks to supplement the water being pumped from the brook. I might add that Poland Springs donated the much needed water! At this time Jack Cross Excavation is rebuilding the pond and dam. Between Gilead and Upton they had localized downpours of 6-9 inches of rain in 4 and a half hours!
A friend from Fort Kent called this week and they also had a tremendous amount of rain.

We had a big "Pre-Moving Sale" today to clean out the closets and excess furniture and appliances before starting to pack up the house. Did great - made enough $$ to cover all the necessary touch-ups before the house goes on market. BUT - I had to stand outside in the sun - 97 degrees most of the afternoon, hair up in a pony tail - soaked with sweat and got a nasty sunburn. All the while, I was focusing on why I was doing it and dreaming of Maine!

The *cool* thing was what happened when we were counting up the money tonight. We were standing over the money box, and I told DH I finally felt like we made significant progress today toward the move. The house is getting decluttered and ready to pack, etc. The end of the rainbow is coming into sight! I looked down, and staring me in the face on the top of the coin pile was a Maine quarter! I picked it up and handed it to him, speechless. We both agreed it had to be a sign. Pretty cool!

Sorry this is so out of context for this thread! Just very excited!!
That is just so cool.

Hang on to that quarter.

I think you're going to absolutely love it here. By the way, today is wonderfully breezy, with a cloudless blue sky and temps in the 70's - the heat wave is OVER.

Yeah, it's the final day of our sale, 9am and 80 degrees out already. Gonna be another hot one! I'm wearing more clothes today to cover up yesterday's sunburn!!

Now how do you guys get tan? Are there tanning salons or something?? I do love my bronze glow!

There are plenty of sunny days here, so while it takes a bit longer (the sun isn't as strong here- that's healthier anyway), we just get tan the natural way.

Although there are tanning salons all over the place here, I haven't had a need for any of them.

Hot! Oh my god! I live in New Mexico but hail from mid coast Maine. WE have had a record breaking HUMID summer, (starting in May and lasting through Sept.!) 104 on my porch, air temp, hot southwest sun with humidity up over 80% many days and a month and a half or rain EVERY afternoon with hail and high winds often. Monsoon season is here.
I long for the coolness of that coastal ocean or a dip in a lake. Planning to move back, but, listen to me, I am complaining and when I get there in July I will be sweating and complaining too. Maine's harsh weather is why I moved here in 2001 to the "dry" desert....oh well!
Humans are funny creatures!
Try to stay cool for the rest of the season.

OMG! We're just going on the porch to finish painting the house today, so I looked at the weather to see what we can expect. It's already 85 at 9:30 in the morning, with a heat index of 95. We have a high today of 96 with heat index of 104+.

All afternoon yesterday while we were out painting, I was dripping with sweat and chanting, "67 and sunny in Maine! 67 and sunny in Maine!" I was also thinking of how in Maine, our neighbors are more likely to come out and grab a brush and help us out, rather than spying through the mini-blinds like all our neighbors did yesterday. I could have poked someone's eye out with my little paint brush, that made me so frustrated. If I saw any of them dying in the heat out there, I would have, at the very least, taken them a gallon of iced water. What's that story about giving the man in hell a glass of water???

Anyway, we are staying laser focused on our ultimate reward for all this labor. It will all be worth it soon!!

And if ANY of you ever feel the need to paint your house in the middle of the hottest days of summer, please call us. We'll be happy to lend a hand!

Maybe you'll get a classic old house that needs fixing up... If you're in my area, I'll be glad to bring some lemonade and a paintbrush.

Actually, around here I'd have to get in line to help out.

Didn't have a picture of a snowball but here is the mighty Androscoggin River at the end of March this year. Included you can see the snowmobile tracks that cross the river at this point.
