Try 140 in full combat gear in Iraq. Then our 90s don't seem so bad at all.
I don't have what that takes. I'm too hot at 80°. I'd never last at 90° in combat gear.

I'm a full-time freelance writer in Minneapolis. We are considering moving to Maine where I grew up and graduated from Orono. Can you tell me how the freelance market is there?

Thank you kindly,
Lucie
At 6:20 pm it's down to 78°, 56% humidity and a dew point of 62°. It's beautiful out now.

Craigslist occasionally has a legit freelance offer. Many of the Maine publications use freelancers. I don't sell many articles locally. My topic is usually sustainable agriculture so I can cover most of the US. Side note - I think I'll be teaching basic sustainable ag in a small town in the Dominical Republic this winter!

Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance might be useful to you. I'd love to attend one of their fall writing retreats at Haystack Mountain School. Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance - Home.

Starting tomorrow, we'll have blue skies and highs in the 70's.

I can't wait for autumn.

Yesterday afternoon it was 108 here in the Midwest. That's just the temperature, not the heat index which would be higher. Contrary to what most of our New England friends think, we have a lot of humidity. I don't know why, since we're land-locked, but it is not uncommon for the relative humidity to be over 60%. I can't wait to move to Maine. This is just unbearable.

An actual temperature of 108...?

Holy cow. I don't know how you take it. I honestly don't think I could survive that.

What makes the 108 worse is that we live in a 14 room Victorian house with only 2 window AC units. We close off a few rooms which makes it a bit cooler, but it's still pretty uncomfortable when it's this hot. We'd put in central air if we were going to stay here, but we're hoping to move to Maine. I really can't take another Midwest summer.

Yep! Just got back from a run to get counter tops and saw on the temp marquis at the bank down the street it's 109 here today. Will NOT be doing any outdoor work this sizzing afternoon!! Even had to stop at DQ for ice cream on the way home. So anxious to move!

And, we don't even get an "autumn" here. We get green trees that turn to brown trees by the end of summer, then back to green again in Feb/March. That's another thing I can't wait to see in person.

Only in pictures! I saw a few maples one fall in Lost Maples Park in West Texas, but that's the only fall colors I've ever seen in person. And there is a reason it's called "Lost" Maples - they're probably the only ones in Texas!
