Our black flies are very healthy. They have had some nice meals lately, and are so plump they can barely fly.

I'm going to compile this week's map this afternoon. It looks much better but according to reporters, it's mostly because of the wind. I'll post it when I finish.

I saw my first dragonfly yesterday. They snatch black flies right out of the air. That's what they are doing when they dart around. It isn't random.

Black flies, mosquitoes and deer flies all like tan and they head right for the tape.
I'll pick some up in town tomorrow for K to try. Your other tips that we have tried have been spot-on, so I am hoping that the critters like the tape better than K's not-very-tan hide! (Actually, he usually wears long sleeves on account of the sun, but the tend to swarm his face.)

Dragonflies have been out for over a week now, here. And the Flycatchers that nest over our front door have hatched a brood of babies already. They had two broods last year, might get two this year as well.

The wind is credited with keeping the black flies down in many areas.
