Lubec/Eastport 4th of July
We are vacationing in Lubec over the 4th. I have seen online that Lubec is having a 4th of July celebration this year, but have seen that Eastport's 4th is enormous. Anyone have suggestions about timing to get into Eastport for the 4th? Or any information on Lubec's celebration? Thank you for the information.

You can check here for information concerning Lubec:
Lubec Bicentennial
It is the bicentennial for Lubec so things should be fun. Fireworks on July 3rd.
Eastport on the 4th is lots of fun. Be prepared for big crowds and having to search for parking.

Eastport's 4th last 4-5 days. We have a Navy ship in this year again. Not too many that we don't. Eastport 4th of July
Not sure on Lubec's 4th. I know they are having a bicentenial: Lubec Bicentennial Celebration! - Special Events Calendar Lubec, Maine
Lubec to Eastport is about 45 minutes to an hour depending on your driving. Route 189 to Rt 1 then Route 190 into Eastport. Or go to Campebello catch the ferry to Deer Island then from there to Eastport by another ferry. Short walk downtown and great scenery across the bay. Enjoy and have a safe trip up.
Just looked up your location. Wow, long drive. How the heck did you find us??? Not really a big destination spot.

Thanks for the quick responses! Yes, VERY long drive! We are looking to break up the trip into two days, possibly staying in Vermont. We have always wanted to visit Maine, and try to find less touristed areas on vacation. Actually found the rental cabin on a vacation by owner site, and Lubec seemed exactly what we wanted, the 4th was just a plus.

The parade in Eastport starts at 2PM on the 4th - the police will block Rt 190 between 12:30 and 1 PM that day so get here early. There's usually parking on many of the side streets.

You should probably be in Eastport by Noon on the 4th if you're coming to see the parade. They start closing roads by 1:00. It's always a great parade.

I heard on the news once that ours is the longest 4th parade in the state. We stand by the IGA and before it's all gone past we can look back on Key Street and see the first of it again. About 3/4 to a mile hike for them to get to there. Then we go watch from the house on Key Street for about 15-20 minutes and watch the last of it again. At least all those that make the whole circuit.

How long of a drive? It's not 45 minutes to an hour unless you are stopping for gas and counting that too. At tops it's 45 minutes. I drive from Lubec to Eastport all the time to go diving and I need to time things to hit slack tide, 40 to 45 minutes is usual. But that's a minor point.
Glad to hear the Navy is sending another vessel.

The older I get the more I take my time. But it just dawned on me that they are doing contruction in a couple places between here and Whiting, too. That will add some until they finish.

Worst slowdown I got was when a bait truck overturned on 189. The stench remained for days. Lot's of construction on 189 last year delayed me a bit but 189 is so nice now it was worth it.
I always drive faster getting to the dive and return more slowly.
