Default Blue Hill vs. Bar Harbor, Maine

Hi
I have a question , i am a ER nurse, 2 hospital have openings.
Blue Hill and Mount Desert. I fell in love with Maine a couple of years ago.
i want a small coast town , and a small community hospital.
I am in my 40's , quiet person just me and my dogs , the kids are grown , night life doesn't matter. What are the pro's and con's of both areas?
thanks ,
Tena

They're really not that far apart. I'd suggest lining up interviews at both hospitals and let the job decide.

A lot of people consider Blue Hill to just be out-patient for the local funeral home.

Blue Hill is "classier" than Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor is larger and much busier during tourist season.Housing is next to impossible to find in Bar Harbor.

Other than they both begin with B they are very diferent types of communities. Bar Harbor, uber tourist town fed by the most visited national park in the nation. Expensive and crowded in the summer, quiet tho in the winter. One unique perk or curse you might get to treat Martha Stewart. In addition to the hospital Bar Harbor has another world famous medical facility. Jackson Lab breeds thousands, maybe millions, of labratory mice they sell around the world.

Blue Hill also has tourists in the summer but not on the scale of a Bar Harbor or Camden. We food vended a very quirky music festival sponsored by their unusual local radio station a few times. The county ag fair is the big event.

Both are beautiful coastal locales. Blue Hill much more quiet and laid back, more real Maine. Bar Harbor has a big art scene, Blue Hill does too but again on a smaller scale.

I think you're putting the cart before the horse. Apply for both jobs and see what happens. Maine graduates a number of nurses each year, so what might be seen as a "need" in May, isn't necessarily the same in June. Do your research for both areas, but don't concentrate on trying to decide between the two until and unless you're offered *both* jobs. Depending on the job and the budget, hospitals frequently pay for travel for interviews, but the first step is to apply and make it through a phone interview first. Lots to do before you have to worry about making a decision, so just enjoy the research and see what happens. Good luck!

This is true. When I put my house outside of Bar Harbor out for rent last August, after the previous renters bought a house, the agency had more than 100 calls. They begged me to "make it stop"! Rentals for houses for 12 months across from national park land are EVEN worse than "next to impossible" to find.

However, I love the close knit community. You'll have lots of action in the Mount Desert Hospital in the summer and i know several people who work there.
