Default Librarian hoping to relocate?

Hello, All. I know this is a little obscure a question, but would anyone have any idea what the outlook is like for a librarian in your state?

I will get my masters degree this December and Maine is our #1 dream place. I have followed this forum very closely; I realize Maine has its issues (like any other place in the world), but through this forum and much other research, Maine just seems to suit us.

We live in Oklahoma now, but don't like it AT ALL. However, I was raised in Minnesota and my wife has spent time in Alaska, so the winters won't be a total surprise.

We aren't even dead set on a specific area. Greater Portland or Bangor would suit us fine, but we aren't big into city life (at least as a lifestyle necessarily) and have been looking at the Farmington area and especially the Presque Isle/Houlton.Ft. Kent area.

From what I understand, even a school librarian has to have Maine teacher certification. I'd be willing to do this if necessary but am much more interested in obtaining a public or academic library position anyway.

I know many library systems, esp. up north, are tiny and sometimes only operational a few hours a week, but I see that there are several universities scattered throughout the state.

Does anyone have ANY idea what it might be like acquiring a job in this field, particularly for an out-of-stater from away?

We are a nice, quiet family of 5 who loves the outdoors and nice small communities, though we certainly can appreciate some culture and night life as well.

Any info or tips are appreciated! Thanks.

You might want to check museumjobs.com (I think that's the site).

I have been on there lately though, and didn't see anything for Maine. That's what is putting me off persuing my dream of a career in Art History.

What can you do when you have so many people with a degree but not enough jobs to go around? I had to take the business route (in other words, a career choice that lets me pay the bills).
