Default Acadia Park Day Trip from Boothebay Harbor-doable????

Hi Mainers!!
I'm from Long island, and i will be going on a vacation to maine in late august. im very sure i will be staying at a hotel on southport island, near boothebay harbor. while in maine one of the 'main"(yes pun intended lol) things i want to do while in maine is to go to Acadia Park. what im worried about: would i be able to go to Acadia park and see most of what there is to see in one day, without getting up super-early in boothebay harbor or having to stay overnight in bar harbor? it seems that acadia park is a little far-off from BB, but im not totally sure. thanks

I doubt very much you would get to see "most" of what is in Bar Harbor and Acadia in a day trip from Boothbay Harbor. It most likely would be 2 hour drive each way. Depending how long you spend in the village and how far through the Nat'l Park you explore it makes for a VERY long day but I suppose you could do it.

Long Island here too. I go to Bar Harbor EVERY 4th of July. Then I head down to Boothbay, then Freeport. You will need more than 1 day to view everything. Its NOT worth the trip from Boothbay to Bar Harbor to stay one day. Then a 10 HR drive back to L.I. Make sure you see Jordon Pond, thats at least 1/2 day alone. Have a great trip! Any questions, email me.

Boothbay Harbor to Acadia is 2 1/2 hours, more if traffic is bad. So round trip is half a day already. Add in meals, and you won't even be able to see much of the town of Bar Harbor, much less the park itself, in the time remaining.

Best bet is go up one day, stay overnight, come back the next. You won't feel rushed, you'll get a better sense of the place, and you'll see more.

I've done the drive a ton and have accomplished quite a bit in a day trip. We live almost 2 hours northwest of Acadia and everytime company comes we head on over for a day trip. We see quite a bit each trip! Still worth the trip EVEN if you have to pick and choose what you do see!
