Thinking of moving to Maine

If being an hour and half from the ocean is okay with you, you could consider the Waterville/Winslow area. I grew up there, live "away" now and considering moving back to Maine. While there two weeks ago, we found a really nice rambler/ranch house for $150K. Many good school disctricts within driving distance.

Something to think about.

Hey James! I'm here in NJ, and thinking of doing the same thing. Have a friend who moved from NJ to Cape Elizabeth about 10 yrs. ago. She moved from C.E. to S. Portland recently, and loves it. I'll be honest with you. I have two children. We are a racially mixed family. When my girlfriend moved to Maine (she happens to be caucasian), she and her husband were concerned that their children would never get to know any other culture. I'm concerned that we wouldn't "fit in". Can anyone speak to that? Do you guys think we would have any trouble with racism in Maine?

I have never seen any blatant racism, in particular I've never seen anyone singled out or targeted by race. I have heard jokes, nothing compared to what's on t.v. or in some music. I have known people in Maine that were African American and was not aware of any issues. My husband is from a racially diverse background, and older than I am. We had no negativity that I'm aware of. We do have wonderful friends, a quiet lifestyle, and peace in Maine. College and University towns offer more diversity. North of Bangor it's VERY difficult to find a hair stylist that knows what they're doing with ethnic hair.

Far from racist in caribou maine but every place in the world u have those ignorant people with their minds set a certain way and they could say rasict thing u never know but its never been that way here in caribou and our neighboring town limestone has a jobcorp so theres people from all over many cultures so i don't see a problem around here

Wow u relly have no clue about Caribou I've grown up here my whole life yea we have a population of people everyones different everyone makes there own choices If u want to do drugs ur going to not everyone does and I'm proof every town has people addicted to drugs alchol u name it but doesn't mean whole towns going to do it Our town may be small everyone knows everyone doesn't take lng to know whos doing what everyone whos lived here eventually knows everyone directly or u know the name what they did we just seem top know everyone being so small! Ovically u dont know this town so well nomatter how long u lived here and yea we have people with addictions but thats their deal its not like u walk outside and all u see is guns drugs nothing like that and the people who are doing drugs has dropped greatly with all the busts you complain about this town than leave but i do love this little town u know everyone theres great people here and its a safe community we have a tough police force and theres no big time crimes here the few crimes that happen don't amount to anything anywheres eles! now for people to be running there mouths about other people is wrong like i said ive lived here and u know everyone now The teacher Mr.cousins was a normal man yes he shot his family which kills me to know because i loved those kids and my hair dressesr tima but u don't relze what happened i'm not saying it was right I have had to deal with loss somthing that hits my heart bad Lee cousins inally snapped his wife my hair dresser was leaving him and he lost it so he was sefish and killed his family leaving a note basically saying noone could have her this way but all im saying is dont reflect that on this town plus they lived borderline p.i but the point is don't run ur mouth about things you don't know ovically and if ur not a good person at heart with morals then yea u will fall into a bad life maybe a user but if u use ur brain and think and go with ur morals ur not going to be a bad person or use drugs its all on u this town doesntmake u do things u choose for urself andCaribou is very quit and nice alot of people who retire move here If u did research u would know that everytown has different people in it yes I would love for the FEW drug dealers and how ever many users to stop using if it takes getting busted but everytown and city has those people in it we have few when others have tons so don't portray this town to somthing its not were small united no matter what and nothing big happens here and barly ever crime u never hear caribou in big news or on t.v but local station! I just really disaprove how u take two major crimes that happened with shooting can u come up with 3 more NO you probly cant theres been suicides yes but the tim hortons guy no names really did have mentall issues and shot a girl he loved ex g.f heart goes out to the family who lost their daughter but dont bring up two major tragdey that u know nothing about ovically and why make our town look bad over two ****ing crimes! Honestly if u want to move i would move to caribou it is small community if u have kids u know everything thats going on safe place and we have great tough school system and great police unit! p.s i don't want to offend u but u really need to watch wat u say and research so u don't put thing that **** people off and i really didnt want to read how horrible this town is people chose what they do in their lives and I really didnt want u making statement of a family that was destroyed cuz a guy lost it it was a huge loss to this town oour beloved tina cortina and cote alot of people would be mad even tho u were just making a point this town has candle visuals and walks for them they ment alot to me in my life and now they are gone my loss has nothing to do with this town EXPLAIN HOW IT DOES they died here doesn't make our town hoping with crime and research the few crimes that have happened its been all throughout years only other thing is drug bust those happen everyday some wheres and being small the police know whos using they just got to catch them and they will but u need to admit this town is so peaceful quit safe and a great united town and to the few people dealing and how many people use we may not know of everyone who uses but u figure it out just stop now before u lose ur life jail or even death and to the people who deal with peer preasure don't do drugs be yourself live above the influence and you will make it in this world you can have it all set goals and reach for them

Caribou is a great town no matter what anyone says lived here my whole life while still living in caribou i had another place in woodland now thats a great town alot of country but still close to caribou and p.i I sold that place and still stayed in caribou till I had school in portland I kept my place here and came up on weekends and vacation for 3 months Portland has alot of crime and if u worry about drugs this is not a town its a city of alot of people busy and big crime rate i wouldn't ever be by myself and being a girl was scared! I guess im glad to live in caribou im small town girl who loves it here i have a huge family step siblings step mom step dad u name it like 9 siblings and my siblings all stayed here to raise familes Id love to leave go big but I want my kids to be raised in this town small quit u know everyone quickly and the number one thing is because the safety thats here no kids just go up missing my whole child hood i could be walking and not be scared ever theres no crimes that just happen the few crimes that have happened were someones personal reasons whichs wrong but my point theres never any crimes living here ive never locked my car doors and not even my house thats how sure i am knowing everyone if u have no enemies u have no worries
