I caught this crooked little bass while fishing on the St. Croix this afternoon. We were trolling when I caught it so it doesn't seem to have problems swimming at a decent rate of speed.

Fort William Henry next. This was interesting because it is one of the few Maine forts that actually saw action. Two neat facts:
1) Attackers of the previous fort used a large rock for cover. So the tower bastion of Fort William Henry was built around that rock.
2) The construction cost something like 2/3 of Massachusetts's Colony yearly budget. But the mortar holding the stone together was of such poor quality that the fort was indefensible. Think the Big Dig is a recent phenomenon? Love that gummint work.
Sadly, the clouds rolled in, so the pictures stink. But you out-of-staters can still get an idea of how pretty the coastal peninsulas are.
