Truly though, I haven't found many places that are so pretty , I have to hold my breath to take it in. Maine does that for me.

I agree that sprawling tracts of housing are ugly.
However I have not seen any since moving to Maine.

Enjoy our Maine pics, though this is only 300 of them!
These pictures are so amazing! Thanks for the link. I love the high tide/low tide pictures. I cannot believe the difference between each set of pictures.
Thank you for posting the pictures. I really enjoyed them.

Hi Ray,I think you will find that Maine has been proactive as far as development goes. If creating a subdivision in Unorganized Townships or any area that isn't self governed,LURC has guidelines to prevent sprawl. If you own,say 100 acres and want to make 15 acre lots and sell them, the state requires you to create lots together and the rest will be a common area for all
owners to use. In the future I wouldn't be surprised that the state will require "organized" towns adopt these zoning laws before receiving state and federal monies-like they are doing now in regards to shore land zoning laws. We just had to update our shore land plan to satisfy these new laws to get our share of road maintenance money.
