Default Moose Buddies

Today I saw two young bullmoose walking down my street who appeared to be best buddies. First they touched nose to nose, then they draped their heads and necks over one another as though they were giving hugs, and finally they ran off together into the woods. Enjoy! (click on thumbnails to enlarge)

Was wondering the name of this little blue flower?

Husband and I were working on our porch when this bull moose trotted across the road on to our side driveway and out to the backyard. Barely had time to get his picture, but it was a thrill.

There are many good DVDs out there that can help you allot. Also many are crap but be careful of what you buy. The law of thirds is a good point to start with. That will help you compose your shot better. If your camera has multi focus points and you can control what point or points the camera will use than a bit of practise with that using the law of thirds will help make a pulitzer prize photo.

Great photos can be taken with cheap low class cameras as well as extremely expensive pro cameras. Is how you use it that will make the dirrerence. Good luck!

gcberry-can I ask where you live? Just curious where moose walk down the street! Yikes!

FLtoMaine-I think those blue flowers are a domestic forget-me-not. Wild ones have a little yellow in the center.
7th gen-that 2nd shot is beautiful! the lighting, and being just a smidgeon out of focus (or maybe just the lighting softening the edges?) Don't know but it's gorgeous!

pretty neat turkey shots! Lots of turkey around here but I've never seen them ...umm...making babies?

Default Where to see moose in Maine

gcberry-can I ask where you live? Just curious where moose walk down the street! Yikes!

these pictures (click on thumbnail to enlarge) were taken in Stoneham, ME. Moose are around for around 3 weeks in Spring, when the bugs get really bad and they run to the pond for relief.

If you REALLY want to see moose and have almost 100% chance at seeing MULTIPLE moose, let me recommend the following route outside of Bethel. Best time is 5 - 7 a.m. You can also go at dusk, but that's a lousy time for picture-taking due to lack of good light, so I recommend the early morning time.

This is a 3 to 4 hour loop.

When we did only a very small section of the loop, we saw 5 moose (including 2 bull moose).

Begin at the Moose's Tail Restaurant/Sunday River Brewing Company outside of Bethel ME.

Drive east on Rte. 2 into Rumford.

Turn left onto Rte. 17 north and follow towards Oquossoc

Turn left onto Rte. 16 in the town of Oquossoc and head southwest to Errol, NH.

Turn left at the 'T' intersection in Errol onto Rte 26 South towards Bethel, ME
Turn right at the 'T' intersection in Newry, ME and continue south on Rte. 26.

It is not unusual to see more than 20 - 30 moose on this route!

Another good place is around Umbagog Lake, but you may see only 1 - 3 moose there.

good luck!

Now you tell me! as often as I've been to Maine, I've never seen a moose! Last time I took a route (forget where now) that supposedly had moose all the time. Saw some foot prints. Saw a bunch of Moose Crossing signs. Saw some moose poop. No moose. Not one. Zip. Nada.

Maybe some day.
