My husband and I are leaving for our New England honeymoon in about ten days and are so excited!! We are going to be in Boston for about three days, Maine for a day, and New Hampshire for a day. Are there any must see things that we should not miss? We are ready to escape the Florida heat to see the most beautiful part of the country (in my opinion.)

When in Boston, go out to Lexington and Concord to visit the historic sites. It is a trip every American should make. Stand on that hallowed ground and stand where our forefathers stood at Concord Bridge. Then reflect on why those patriots of old made the choices they made.

They did it for US!

You can't see much of Maine in a day so stop in Portland to walk the Old Port. Visit the most famous lighthouse in the country at Portland Head Light. Head west out of Portland to North Conway, NH and take the Kankamagus Highway through the White Mountains to Lincoln, NH. Then head south to Boston. That will be a tiny sliver of what we have to offer, but a fine five day trip indeed.

Congratulations on your new or forthcoming marriage and welcome to New England.

Northern Maine land man got it right. Portland would be the easiest thing to do for a day, I highly recommend the old port, but it you don't want to shop you can do a windjammer cuise or whale watch tour. Do visit Portland head lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth. I don't know if you have a place to stay yet but check out staying at an inn on peaks island, short ferry ride from the old port.
Portland chamber of commerce has a web site, check it out.

Also make plans to come back some anniversary rent a cabin on a lake....that's a real maine experience!

congratulations!

freeport has a harrasseeket Inn I believe it had a five star restaurant rating- also, it has rooms with a hot-tub and fireplace in the same room- may not need the fireplace now- but if you come back in cooler weather

Can't give you any suggestions as haven't been back to Maine for awhile, but a little honeymoon story.

Back in the day wife and I honeymooned in Maine. She had just graduated college in little college town of Stevens Point, WI, We just happened to stop at a wayside on the coast just outside of Rockland, ME and she ran into a lady college friend who lived in same dorm. Unbelievable, still can't get over that one.

We stayed in Maine about 10 days. I had a pickup truck with a "slide-in" camper, so we had complete freedom to roam wherever.
