Hopefully you don't have a grub problem. A few years back we had that here. You could peel the dead brown grass back like a banana peel.

In another area of my yard I just planted new grass about 8 days ago. This morning I was out watering stuff and I noticed that grass is really sprouting. I know everybody says, plant in early spring or fall, but I've had good luck in mid summer.

Is a grub the same thing as a slug?

I think they are different. I googled slugs and they don't look like grubs.

Thank you both.

Next question, remembering I'm new at the whole lawn care and gardening business: Can/Do slugs cause damage to lawns?

Thanks.

The slugs won't do as much damage as the skunks will digiing for them. If slugs get in your garden, a bowl of beer usually gets rid of them.

Slugs and grubs are much different.

Slugs are basically shell-less snails while grubs are insect larvae - the juveniles of such things as Japanese and other beetles.
