Hi Folks:

My family and I are considering a move to a small town in central Maine (Franklin County). We like the area quite a bit, and I have a job lined-up. My concern is for my 6 year-old son, as he is Asian. My wife and I adopted him when he was a baby, and I want to make sure he will be accepted. I mean no offence by my post, and I appreciate any thoughts the Mainers here might have on the subject!

Thank-you,
Dil

I don't know about Franklin County, but my take of Maine overall, is yes, your child will be accepted.

Something I've noticed here, more than anywhere else I lived, is the people aren't as concerned about the type of house you live in, the type of car you drive, if you have the latest fashion. or what your job title is. People here, from my experience are concerned that you can heat your house safetly, your car is safe, you have enough clothing to stay warm, and that you have work.

I have seen a little snobbery (is that a word?) between some towns; Orono is the college town, Old Town is the mill town. But that's really about it.

I wouldn't have any concerns about the people themselves...of course there will aways be a few(as you would find anywhere), but they aren't the masses that I've met or interact with.

No problem. Various friends of mine have adopted children from Central America, Asia, and Africa, and none of them have experienced problems.

My grandparents did Native American/Irish in the beginning of the last century. Never heard of any problems
