Grand Falls is almost to the top of the County. And Campobello would be 3 hours or so from Houlton. I'd recommend staying around Houlton if you just want to fill an afternoon with some interesting stuff. Downtown Houlton (Market Square area) is great to just walk around.....very historic and quaint. There is a really nice park and walking path right next to it, on the river. You could drive through the Smyrna Mills area on Route 2 to see the Amish folks. They have a store and lots of interesting farms. Just go slow through there; wagons and bicycles.
The Patten Lumberman museum is probably open tommorrow. Great displays. And you can see one of the most spectacular views of Katahdin just south of Patten on Route 11 (there's a pullover spot). Just north of Houlton, the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton (Route 1) is open Saturdays. Really nice place.
Lots of really pretty little backroad drives in southern Aroostook too.
If you do the Route 1 drive to Weston for the Million Dollar View, you won't be disappointed. Then you could cut back over to Lincoln on 6.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Everyone!

We had a very nice pretty drive up rt 1 scenic route to Houlton. We then crossed over into Canada and I got a free pass for the zip lining that expires in end of October so I'm hoping to go back to use it! We also went to see the worlds longest covered bridge in Hartland. We then drove a bit, then we crossed back over and went to Grammy's to eat. It was a beautiful day for a nice scenic drive. We went and got a bunch of information for things to do right over the border too so now I plan to go back to do them!
