Smile Nursing Pay ?

We are thinking of possibly moving to Maine in the next 2-3 years. My husband is currently an RN down in the ER department. He has been a nurse for 4 years, and being in the ER has several additional certifications. What kind of pay can he expect to get? I know that nurses are in high demand, and he is also previous military so he has also been looking at working for the govt at a VA Hospital or such. Also, what are the hours most nurses are working. Right now he works 3, 12 hour shifts, so he has 4 days off. Is that what most of the nurses work in Maine as well. One of the areas that has openings is in Bangor, which I've read about on these forums and it looks like a nice place. Another area is Brunswick but that is on the base, and being that they are closing the base I don't think much will be open when we do move for that area. Any additional information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

This should give you a general idea until you hear from actual RNs in ME.

I have a friend at boston medical that Makes $55 hr work 3/12's schedule. I have heard pay here is just as good comparing to cost of living. There is a demand here also. I'd just look at CMMC Lewiston website or cmc portland website and see what they have. Also depending on where you want to live in Maine, my friend told me she knows people that commute to Boston from Maine and NH. Just a thought.

I'm a nursing student and have done some research. Check out JobsInME.com - Local Maine jobs, careers and employment (Home). There is a VA hospital, Togus, near Augusta. Maine General Medical Center is near it. The RN's I know earn in the low $50K's. Bear in mind that there are places in Maine where that $50 will go further than others as far as living expenses.
