About time, 90% of the people on that stretch go at least that fast now anyway.

I agree...just as soon as everyone learns how to actually merge on to the freeway. What is it with people coming to a stop!?!

It was all designed for 75MPH except the S curve over Kenudkeag Stream with the cemetery on both sides.

This is true. The stretch could probably be driven safely by 95% of the drivers at 90 mph, so 75 isn't a problem. After dark, that's another issue though. Remember, when this highway was at a higher speed limit, moose were rare. I, personally, wouldn't drive that stretch over 65 after dark.

bangor, is one of the toughest areas to "merge" on all of 95 in maine- the same "merge" lane, is also an exit ramp from 95 traffic, timing is critical-I've had a few near misses, because sometimes the exiting cars, dont use a directional signal, and slam in front of you- but also, you cant assume in two lanes, when you merge, that cars will go to the outside lane-letting you in

I drove just outside of boston a couple days ago, and whole different world, they just fly out to merge,,, but it was also 3-4 lanes,
Ive seen many out of state drivers try this in maine(portland north), with almost an 18 wheeler wiping them off the road- because the 18 wheeler had nowhere to go-to let the merging car on(2 lanes, not four)

Ive also observed, the faster a car is going, the more the driver thinks he owns the road- so beware!! (cant assume everyone is a cautious, good driver)

I dunno, but it is enough of a phenomenon that when I passed an on ramp this week and there was a car that merged on ahead of me, and one behind me and then a car on the freeway behind that one... and it all went smoothly... that I mentally noted "WOW! Four cars in a row that know how to properly merge!"

Glancing in my rear view, though, the third car on the on ramp blew the lucky streak and the one on 95 all but slowed to a stop, attempting to let it merge. Oh, well... for 30 seconds it worked properly!

When I was in high school two boys from town were killed on that curve because they were driving too fast. The Corvette they were driving landed in the cemetery.

The only difference when the speed limit changes is that we'll be driving 75 mph legally. I'm passed going 75 mph.

I don't think "freeway" is ever going to stop sounding funny.
