Default From Ohio to Maine

Hi all my wife and I are planning to relocate our family to the Portland area early next year. We would like to secure a rental property before we arrive. Is this possible? We currently live in Columbus were the typical three bed 2 bath rents for around 1100. We are just normal people with normal jobs. The summer heat and daily life of too many people has just got us down. Also we are big into youth sports any info on local baseball would be nice. Is there a certain part of Portland we should stay away from?

In Portland a higher quality 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment will run about $1150 a month.

Not sure of youth sports in Maine- lots of hockey.
Portland is a very pleasant maritime small city, that has no really bad areas.

Over the past few hours I have poured over all of these thread's and Wow! I would prefer (I think) to live in Cumberland county, but it seems hard to pick a place. I am familiar with small town living and can't wait to live it. Does anyone have a town in mind where a working family cant rent a sizable house for around 1200 and be somewhat close to work? What about Gorham area?

Hi. We're planning a move to Gorham or a similar area from Illinois next year. We are also normal people with normal jobs and nice kids. The Portland area has so much to offer. Check rental housing for Maine on craigslist.com, just to get an idea of pricing. We've seen some very acceptable houses near Gorham/Scarborough/Windham for 1200-1500. Good luck, and keep us posted on your move.

Good to hear..have you went as far as to find out how easy or hard it will be to rent or secure a place before moving. My concern is out of state references or cuurent job. We have saved for this move and could pay 6 months up front but I wonder if no job on day 1 will be a problem?
