Default Looking at Robbinston swampland

LOL, not sure if it's swampland or not but the plot is around 45°02'56.97" N 67°13'11.82" W (you can Google Earth it), sits between a bunch of hills just southwest of Howard Lake. You can see it on this map.

I'm in Ohio. This place looks kinda swampy from the layout and images in Google Earth and there's very little elevation change. The fact that it's roads are seasonal I'm thinking is due more to flooding than to snow. It's fairly flat and looks like a lot of glacial water pockets, as if there aren't a lot of places for water to percolate under ground, so flooding is a concern.

Seasonal roads isn't a problem, we really want to be secluded, and to be off the grid. Snow isn't a problem either for the same reason. but we'd really like to build an earthship, which is about 3-4ft under ground with a 4-5ft berm of earth build up around it. The spot is 321ft above sea level, and drops only 10-15ft 200 yards to the east, south and west of where we'd like to build (that'd be the little thumbtack there), so the spot's elevated, but I'd hate to see it turn into a swimming pool in the spring :-)

Has anyone been around Howard Lake?
Are the mosquitos bad there?

Any input would be awesome and appreciated.
We're thinking of checking it out in the spring, but if anyone already knows the area it would save us a trip :-)

Thanks

"Clouds of skeeters so thick that if you try to cut down any trees they will take your chainsaw away from you."

"Black fly so bad that if you go there you will end up looking like beef jerky"

Seriously I have no idea. However both of the above quotes were told to me by realtors while discussing properties I was interested in. So it seemed appropriate.

Did I mention that Mainers may have a sense of humor?

The seasonal aspect of the roads means that they aren't plowed in the winter time. It looks like there may be a lot of low land there, but there is some higher land too. It is probably fairly cheap per acre. We own some land near there on Penamaquan Lake.

I know Ohio is a good drive from here but you really need to come walk the land. Hope you plan to before buying. Mr. Austin is correct on the road. Is a realtor involved?

Realtor is involved but I can't get him to reply to our questions. You'd think if he wanted to sell land he'd at least type an email.

Definitely plan to walk it before buying but wanted some local feedback before wasting the $1000 to make the trip (if possible). The place almost seems to be in an elevated bowl with a single outlet for water. Just hoping someone knew the area. thanks for the feedback

As to your bug question, there appears to be a lot of forested wetland in that area, in fact, most of that lot looks damp. I would venture a guess, that the mosquitoes may be bad for part of the year.

Not sure the picture you posted is of the spot you reference. I get an entirely different map. The location I find when I search for the coordinates you posted shows swampland. It's also been heavily cut over. The google map I get when I post those coordinates looks more like a wasteland than woodland. The map you posted actually shows some pretty good ground. As others have stated, I'd walk the ground. If it's what I think from my quick research, I don't think I'd want it if someone was giving it away.
