"Lost on a Mountain in Maine", the true story of a 12 year old lost in Baxter Park for 9 days is a must read. Don Fendler now lives in Tennessee and summers in Maine. Do a wikipedia search for Don Fendler to find out more about this story. I seem to remember it was in 1938.

msina: I'll be picking up the "Keep the Lights Burning Abbie" for my 9 year old. I'd heard about, but then just forgot! Thanks for mentioning that!

this is a great thread, but not so great for my pocketbook I fear! LOL I will be hunting many of these books on Alibris: Used Books, Used Textbooks, Rare & Out-of-Print Books (where I buy books online instead of amazon... ) but darn it I am trying to save $$ for my trip!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Sarah Graves, Home Repair is Homicide series for the last several years. It's fictional mysteries all set here in Eastport. With the exception of changing a store name or a local residents name, it's factual in the locales, events, houses, weather, everything else. They are a cozy read on a winters evening. I think there are 8 published so far.
