Hello, I understand that the Lubec Channel Lighthouse was purchased a few years ago by someone from New York City. The Goose Rocks Lighthouse, which is also a sparkplug, in mid coast Maine has been restored and is now museum. Lighthouse enthusiasts can even pay to spend the night in the keeper’s quarters. Has anyone heard of plans to do the same thing with the channel light? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

It sold in 2007 for $46,000. The new owner plans to rent it out to interested guests.

"The actual plans reveal that Gary will be more than up to the job ahead of him. Besides making it habitable again, he’s also planning on offering it as a weekend getaway for people that want to stay in a lighthouse, along with involving the local community in his plans, such as offering 'weekend getaways' to non-profit or local groups as a prize in their fundraising efforts."

Very nice to hear. Our summer home (future retirement home) looks right out at the light. It is still a working navigational light serviced by the Coast Guard. It is covered in gulls and cormorants most of the year.

I hope that thing has a big fat lightning rod. Ships get hit by lightning all the time and it is impressive.

Thanks Northern Maine Land Man & ADSLubec for the prompt replies!

It’s encouraging to hear that the new owner is serious about fixing up the lighthouse and has the means to do so. I always thought the channel light was one of the more unique lights on the Maine coast. I remember reading about the sale of the lighthouse a few years back in the Quoddy Tides, but haven’t heard anything since. Does anybody know if they have started making repairs, or if the new owner has reached out to any of the other lighthouse associations in the area? The West Quoddy keepers association has really done an awesome job with the West Quoddy lighthouse (and their respective organizations in Campobello and Cutler as well).

And ADSLubec, brilliant photo of the Light + the CGC Abbie Burgess; If that photo was taken last August I might have been hiking just across the way at the Upper Duck Pond lol.

You're welcome and indeed the photo was taken this past August.
